How to hide gold From metal detectors

The question that bugged me every time I come after a long trip of metal detecting is, could there be items that the metal detector isn’t capable of detecting?

I always wander along the thought of some of the metals, mostly Gold, not being detected by metal detectors.

That led to me asking another question from myself, could someone hide Gold from metal detectors, if so how to hide Gold from metal detectors?

I did some research with the help of professional detectorists about this and here’s what I’ve found about, How to hide Gold from metal detectors?

You can hide Gold from metal detectors by hiding them in a safe or 2-3 feet underground. The thick metal covering of the safe will interfere with the signals of the metal detectors. Or you can use soil minerals, iron pipes or modify the shape of the gold to avoid detection.

When I was thinking about this, I was able to find some more ways that gold might be hidden from the metal detectors.

Finding out about those methods ensured that I will find more Gold during metal detection.

So in the rest of the article, I will be talking about ways in which you can hide Gold metal detectors.

I also will be giving you tips to get ass those security measures and allow yourself to uncover more and more gold.

Can Metal Detectors Detect Gold?

The answer to this age-old question is yes, Metal detectors can detect Gold.

Metal detectors work by emitting electromagnetic radiation into the ground. This electromagnetic radiation is detected by any current-carrying object in the ground, mostly metals.

Then these metals will create a counter current within themselves, known as the eddy current

This eddy current is then detected by the coil of the metal detector, emitting a sound or a visual.

This is the process by which metals are detected by metal detectors.

Read to know the areas you can find gold in metal detecting.

There are a few technical factors as well as natural factors that affect the detection of metals, in this instant, gold, from a metal detector.

These factors are,

  • The sensitivity setting of the metal detectors
  • The size of the metal hidden underground
  • The purity or the composition of the metal hidden underground
  • The depth in which it is buried underground.

The ability of a metal detector to find gold might vary on its technology. There are some metal detectors designed specifically for gold prospecting

These perform better in finding Gold rather than normal metal detectors.

Gold pieces should be in the depth range of the detectors, if not even the best gold detectors will not be able to detect gold unless they are in the designated depth range of the metal detector.

So, this once again proves to us that metal detectors are good equipment that could detect Gold.

But several factors need to be fulfilled to find gold from a metal detector.

Does this mean if one of the factors that affect gold prospecting by metal detectors doesn’t align properly, the potential finding of the gold might be hindered?

Hang around till the end to find out more on this topic.

As I will be explaining pretty interesting ways that you can hide as well as uncover the hidden gold with your metal detector.

How to Hide Gold From a Metal Detector?

Metal detectors are good tools to uncover hidden gold. But I have found some ways to hide gold from metal detectors, by deceiving them completely. It works like magic!

Here are some of the ways I have found to hide Gold from metal detectors,

  1. Placing in a non-metallic shield
  2. Camouflaging
  3. Burying underground
  4. Shielding with other metals
  5. Modifying the shape
  6. Use Iron as a mask
  7. Leverage soil minerals
  8. Using drain pipes
  9. Advanced hiding techniques

So, let’s have a look at each of those methods to easily hide your Gold from metal detectors.

Why not try and see if these methods work for you too?

1. Placing in a Non-metallic shield

Gold can be hidden by placing them inside a non-conductive substance. This is one of the basic methods of shielding.

This involves covering gold in plastic, rubber, or wood. These objects reduced the chances of the electromagnetic radiation reaching the gold, thus reducing the chances of detection.

2. Camouflaging

Hiding gold among other metal objects lie aluminum foil, coins could also make it harder for metal detectors to detect gold

This is not a very safe option if you have a metal detector that is specifically made for gold detecting, as their sensitivity to gold is very high.

3. Burying Underground

You might be thinking how burying would make it harder for metal detectors to detect Gold. Here I am talking about significant depth like 2-3 feet.

Metal detectors vary in terms of their depth range, but many handheld devices struggle to accurately detect objects deeper than a few feet.

The average depth of metal detectors detecting gold is about 10 to 12 inches.

If you bury the gold at least 2 feet deep or more, it would be challenging for an average metal detector to detect it.

However, you should remember that high-end metal detectors with deep-seeking capabilities can still find the gold.

It’s also important to compact the soil as much as possible after burying the gold to minimize signal penetration.

Metal detectors won’t be able to identify gold by burring your Gold metals or jewelry 2 – 3 feet below the surface.

Better if you can place a soda can or any other cheap metallic items a few feet on top of where Gold is hidden.

Tip: Ensure to compact the soil as much as possible after you bury the gold to make detection even more difficult.

4. Shielding with Other Metals

Instead of shielding with plastic or wood, shielding with copper or aluminum like other conductive metals also could make it harder for metal detectors to identify gold

5. Modifying the Shape

You can surpass the detection of detectors if you could alter the shape of the gold.

Altering gold means thinning out the metal or breaking it into smaller fragments could make it harder for metal detectors to detect.

These are some of the methods I found out that work fairly well to shield or zone out metal detectors. But I highly state that these are only for informational purposes.

If someone tries to smuggle or attempt illegal activities by defying laws. I strongly reprehend those actions.

Because military grade detectors can detect even the tiniest amount of gold, even if we tried harder to conceal them.

6. Use Iron as a Mask

Iron is a good material to mask the signal of gold from a metal detector.

When a gold nugget is surrounded by a significant amount of iron, the metal detector may be overloaded by the iron’s signal, thus masking the gold.

For example, you might bury a piece of gold and then place a large iron object above it in the same hole before filling it back in with soil.

Tip: You can also use iron-rich soil or rocks if you’re in a natural setting. They could produce a similar effect as iron objects.

7. Leverage Soil Minerals

Certain types of soil are rich in minerals that can disrupt a metal detector’s ability to find gold.

If you bury gold in an area with high iron and mineral content (referred to as ‘Hot Rocks’), the detector will need extensive ground balancing and sensitivity tuning to distinguish the gold from the surrounding minerals.

Tip: You can identify ‘hot rocks’ with a metal detector; they give off a similar signal to gold, making it an excellent place to hide your treasure.

8. Using Drain Pipes

If you’re looking to hide gold in an urban setting, iron drain pipes can provide an excellent mask.

Burying gold near these pipes can make it almost impossible for a detector to distinguish between the pipe and the gold.

Tip: It’s essential to ensure you’re not breaking any local laws or damaging infrastructure while burying your treasure near these pipes.

9. Advanced Hiding Techniques

Using advanced measures like using specialized shielding materials just made for hiding gold, or manipulating the frequency can also contribute to hiding gold from the metal detectors.

Now you know how to hide gold from metal detectors.

But what if I told you, there are always some alternative methods to find gold?

Don’t worry! I got you. Read to know how to detect gold without a metal detector!

What Materials Block Gold Detector Sensors?

So, up to now, we know the methods by which we can hide gold from metal detectors.

I have found out that some elements work better in shielding and blocking the signals of metal detectors than their counterpart elements.

Here’re some materials that block gold detector sensors,

  • Non-conductive elements: Among the several non-conductive materials, plastic, rubber, wood, glass, and ceramic has a good potential of blocking the electromagnetic field created by metal detectors.
  • Metallic elements: Metallic elements like copper or aluminum could act as a shield around the gold. This shield would be able to divert any electromagnetic signals and confuse the metal detector.
  • High-density elements: High-density objects like tungsten or lead also could block the electromagnetic signals of the metal detectors. These block the electromagnetic signals by absorbing the electromagnetic radiation into them reducing the ability of the metal detector to detect anything.
  • Magnetic elements: Magnetic elements like iron or steel could interfere with the metal detector’s electromagnetic field and produce confused and mixed signals for the metal detector. This lowers the chance of detection of gold by the metal detector.

Did I cover all you wanted to know about: How to Hide Gold from Metal Detectors?

In this article, I’ve deeply discussed how to hide Gold from metal detectors by explaining the best methods possible.

There are only a few ways that you can try to hide Gold from metal detectors. Even some of them are not successful as they seem.

To hide gold from metal detectors, bury it deep (2+ feet) in the ground near large amounts of iron or electrically conductive minerals, like ‘hot rocks.’ This confuses the detector’s signals, making it harder to find the gold. However, complete concealment from advanced detectors is challenging.

With the improvement of technology and equipment, it will be so hard to evade or hide these items in the future. That is a good thing because it will limit the smuggling of these valuable resources.

If you are a mental enthusiast and trying to use this information in a misdemeanor fashion, I strongly recommend against that choice.
